Abstract

The relationship between State and cooperatives and cooperative legislation is back in fashion as the resolution that declares 2012 as International Year of Cooperatives «encourages governments to continue revising, as appropriate, the legal and administrative provisions governing the activities carried out by cooperatives to promote their growth and sustainability in a socioeconomic context that is rapidly changing». It is therefore appropriate to reflect on some basic guidelines that cooperative legislation should consider to adapt to current demands.
