The cooperation between social initiative cooperatives to maximize their position in welfare services
Abstract
The provision of social services is undergoing a transcendental moment in terms of the regulation of public-private collaboration in this sector. Traditionally, social initiative cooperatives have been a leading agent in the current welfare model, guaranteeing the service in periods when the public authorities lacked sufficient instruments and resources to provide coverage to all citizens. In this context, social initiative cooperatives have been collaborating continuously with other third sector entities. However, generally, this collaboration has been limited to their integration into territorial structures together with other third sector entities without developing a real strategy of collaboration with other social initiative cooperatives. Therefore, at such a transcendental moment for the future of these cooperatives, cooperation with other social initiative cooperatives is necessary and essential in order to guarantee their better position in relation to other profit and non-profit entities in view of the new configuration of public-private collaboration in the provision of social services. The way is highlighting some of their distinctive characteristics, such as their democratic participation and their greater experience in management.
