Corporate cynicism, liquid cooperatives and the risk of a new identity crisis of cooperativism
Abstract
The Declaration on Cooperative Identity, promulgated by the International Cooperative Alliance, was a strategy used to strengthen the ideological pillar of Cooperatives, guiding cooperators around the world on how to proceed in the exercise of cooperative societies. In the same way as happened in the past, cooperative societies once again use inappropriate means to adapt to market practices. By highlighting maneuvers that look exclusively at profits, or the economic purpose of the business, they despise the very personal nature of the entity and pervert the identity substrate. With this, corporate cynicism and liquid cooperatives emerge, thus identified under an analogy to the literature of Zygmunt Bauman. Therefore, to avoid a new identity crisis, it is necessary to understand that Cooperativism is a socioeconomic system.
